This is the true historical account of 600 wealthly men who sold their possessions and forsook all to serve God by building and operating hospitals for the sick and wonded pilgrams in Jerusalem and the Holy Land just before and during the Crusades. In their effort to serve God as humble Hospitallers they came under attack from Islam between the crusades and after all the crusaders had all left. They had to train themselves to be Knights in self defense and began their new call from God to stand in the gap between Europe and the unstoppable hordes of Islam while Christian Europe was too involved fighting amoung themselves to fight off Islam's invading armies. For nearly 500 years this little band served God in hospitals and as warriors enduring some of the most terrible sieges and human wave assults in the history of warfare usually outnumbered more than one hundred to one. In the end to the worlds astonishment they had stopped the unstoppable hordes of Islam, and Europe was saved.
This is an absolutely must read book for Christians today. It is very timely. Once again history repeats itself as we see one country standing in the gap for a world that will not defend itlself. This is an inspiring book on faith and courage. It shows what can be accomplished when spiritual warfare is utilized along side physically standing firm at all costs. God can and does work miracles through a few of His people when those few hear his voice and stand in the gap.
